“ We came here for their outdoor seating and $40 prix fixe dinner. The covered patio will protect against the rain and they have multiple heat lamps. They require proof of vaccination for indoor and outdoor seating, which I appreciate. There is also a small shared parking lot. A nice surprise: they brought us cute yummy rolls and a small potato skin amuse. They have $1 oysters (limit 6/person) for dine-in even outside of happy hour. The menu changes weekly, but this is what I ordered: Cauliflower and thyme soup: They serve it as a bowl with blue cheese and do a pour-over of the soup at the table. The most predominant flavor was the blue cheese. Top sirloin: I always order medium rare for steak, and this was definitely not over-cooked. The waiter said we might not even need a knife because it was so tender, but we actually had a hard time cutting it with the knife provided. Once cut, the meat was flavorful and tender if cut into small enough bites. The accompanying potatoes and sauces are tasty. Pear tart: This was more bready than imagined, and did not have a ton of pears, but still a nice finish to the meal--not super heavy. The meal was quite filling! The $40 prix fixe is supposed to include tip, but it didn't say anything about that on the check and there was still a tip line with suggested tip amounts for the entire bill total (not just oysters), so that was a bit confusing and ended up tipping anyway. Service was friendly and accommodating. Inside seating looked fairly cramped all along a single wall. ”
“ It had been some time since I was able to get into Verdigris. I love the new location! It feels much more open. Their three course menu is a pretty amazing and at such a great price. Their portions are also generous too...so much so that we really needed to take our dessert to go because we were quite full after the starter and entrée. Our desserts were gorgeous too! They packed them to go for presentation which is so rare for many places. We shared a bottle of 2019 Clos D'Audhuy "Les Polissoins" - a French Malbec which was pretty perfect and our bottle of wine was more pricey than our meal but worth every penny! We both started with a bowl of their French onion soup and some of their brioche. For dinner I got their pork tenderloin with bacon, sweet potato-apple-red onion gratin and mustard greens. Dessert to go were incredible fallen chocolate souffle cakes. Service was amazing and I felt way better dropping in for dinner knowing that they require vax proof from all diners. They also have diners use their online menus and try to minimize point of contact etc. ”
“ Been here a few times. Food, service, everything is always impeccable. They have a 3 course menu option which is a good choice if ordering a starter and main course. The salad and beef bourguignon are excellent. The new location is great. Reserve a table online. ”
“ This place is out of this world! Wife and I did a date night and she found this place off an Eater article (they know what their doing!). The food was simply amazing! While this actually use to be 2 separate restaurants the pandemic collapsed it into one in this current location. Does not sit more than about a dozen tables but it was oh so good. It's a must to have reservations otherwise you're not getting sat. What makes this mind blowing is the three course meal for $40 which includes gratuity! We shared a chilled corn soup and a goat cheese salad that were crisp and refreshing. Main entrees of beef Bourguigon and a crab cake sandwich with homemade chips and a dessert that included a berry cobbler and chocolate mousse with fresh fruit. For drinks we had frozen drinks (one alcoholic and one not). Just what was needed on a hot day. All of it was top notch. 6 stars if I could give it. We also had oysters to start and the dinner rolls they make are amazing too. The texture, butter, and salt. Drool!! Service was exactly what you would expect from a restaurant. Super nice and helpful. The chef even apologized at the end for the service billing a bit slow from being backed up. Could not ask for more. Thank you guys for fantastic service and food. We will be back 200%!!! ”
“ I love this place! It's a quaint little French Bistro nestled amongst shops on NE Fremont. If you didn't know it was here, you would drive right by. I've dined here many times pre-Covid and have always had a fantastic meal. Each course could stand on its own, and the totality creating a memorable 4 course dinner at completely reasonable prices. More than reasonable. We enjoyed it so much we chose Verdigris as the venue for a social group gathering; there was 18 of us. They created a prix fix menu with 2-3 options for each course: starter, first, second and dessert. They even matched each course to a glass of wine. Every single one of my selections was divine! The mushroom bisque soup was rich in flavor; the beet salad with goat cheese the perfect palette cleanse; the braised short ribs over polenta was pure comfort food; and the chocolate cake dessert was the perfect t finish. The wines that accompanied created the perfect pairing. Service was impeccable. The atmosphere so quaint and charming. I can't wait to eat in their restaurant as soon as restrictions lift. Until then, we continue to support this small neighborhood restaurant by ordering for pick up. They are offering 4 course meals for $40, including gratuity. That's an unbelievable deal! It's such a treat to have a phenomenal 4 course restaurant meal at home. The Sunday night dinner is the best! ”
“ My first 2020 Portland Dining Month and it did not disappoint. While French Cuisine is not something I have much experience with, this felt like a casual neighborhood place to eat and was no where near the stuffy, white tablecloth place some French eateries can be. The amuse-bouche was a smoked trout with trout roe on sourdough quickly followed by a small roll. The wife and I have not tried this before and having tried it are in no hurry to try it again. The wife had the mushroom fennel soup and thought it was one of the best of mushroom soups. I went for the roasted Romain. It was tasty and roasted brought out flavors and textures to bare. Wife had the beef bourgion, it was tender and very tasty. The sauce brings a great flavor. Roasted brussel sprouts made a good entree great. I went for the rib eye steak with a sauce Charon (hollendaise plus tomato). It was a good steak, cooked to medium rare just as I ordered. Sadly here was the one shortcoming. While all steaks can have gristle, this one had several bits of inedible meat that distracted from the meal. Other places have done better jobs of trimming that before is served. Dessert was the fallen chocolate souffle with whipped cream. It was warm, gooey and good. It wasn't as special as I had hoped. Perhaps if I was a coffee drinker I would have added that and enjoyed it more. Service was very good. Efficient, there when you needed and out of your way the rest of the time. We were seated, ordered and the third course was on the table in under an hour. Perfect. They are on Resy, not open table (find it on their website). I strongly recommend the place and reservations in advance. One nice thing about this being March 1, there is the rest of the month to come back. ”
“ One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Right on Fremont st. in a nice row of amazing restaurants, Verdigris is a special surprise each and every visit. This is because the menu is constantly changing! I often find the restaurants that keep us on our toes are the ones who tend to do the best. I love this place and often go with whatever the chef recommends. If there is a starter I will try a few. Amazingly fresh salads, hearty and creamy soups, fresh bread rolls, beef Bourguignon, scallops, mushroom risotto, bread pudding, and so many other wonderful meals. Every time you go here you can try something new. Trust the chef and go with the three course menu if you are feeling adventurous. ”
“ Neat little French bistro in a hidden in a neighbourhood area. Came here for brunch as I heard the duck fat fried hash browns and brown butter hollandaise were incredible... it wasn't too busy on a Saturday around 11, but every table had ordered the dish. It had to be good right? We were greeted and seated right away right by the window and ordered the 60minute Eggs & Smithfield Ham w/duck fat fried potatoes, and brown butter hollandaise, & the House Ricotta and Lemon Pancakes w/maple berry compote, walnuts and chantilly. Waiting patiently for our brunch as the aroma of the duck fat fried hash browns filled the restaurant and our stomachs grumbled... When the dish arrived and to be honest it looked like normal eggs Benny, but don't let it fool you! Browning the butter for the hollandaise gives it such a unique nutty flavour, which complements the runny poached egg, and the most increasible duck fat fried hash browns. They were so crisp, and flavourful. Each mouthful was decadent. We were wondering if we should hastily order another side of the hashbrowns it was that good... However good reason prevailed and we waited till our meal was complete before deciding. The pancakes were our "light" dessert and they were light and fluffy, and not too sweet. The lemon flavour really stood out, and the berry compote and chantilly were great accompaniments. We were half way through the pancakes and we were surprisingly full, as everything was so rich and decadent - glad we didn't order extra hash! All in all very pleased with the meal, and we will definitely be back for the duck fat fried hasbrowns - it's the meal you didn't know you needed. My one small complaint would be the lack of ventilation in the restaurant, we smelled like grease when we left but the food is worth it :) ”
